Made with only 4 simple ingredients, these 7UP biscuits are a dream! These fluffy, buttery biscuits come together in just minutes and are delicious for breakfast or as a side for dinner.

I love finding new ways to use my homemade Bisquick mix. It’s one of my favorite kitchen staples, making many recipes quick and easy.
Fast recipes like apple cobbler and impossible coconut pie have become staples for us, especially with our packed schedules.
These 7UP biscuits are yet another easy Bisquick recipe. With an unusual mix of ingredients, they create super fluffy, buttery, and tender biscuits you’ll want to enjoy at every meal.
What are 7UP biscuits?
If you appreciate the simplicity of making Bisquick biscuits, you’ll be thrilled with these 7UP biscuits.
These biscuits take Bisquick to the next level and require only four ingredients, one of which is 7UP—hence the name!
The secret lies in the carbonation from the soda, lending these biscuits a unique texture and flavor. Many have even compared them to the deliciousness of KFC biscuits!
They’re soft, buttery, and incredibly light and airy. They pair beautifully with sausage gravy, homemade butter and raspberry jam, or a comforting bowl of corn chowder or beef and barley stew.
How to make 7UP biscuits
If you guessed that this recipe is simple due to its few ingredients, you are absolutely correct!
Ingredients you’ll need
- 4 tablespoons of salted butter: This adds the best flavor to the biscuits.
- 2 ½ cups of Bisquick mix: Store-bought is fine, but homemade Bisquick is even better.
- ½ cup of sour cream: This gives the biscuits a slight tang and a tender texture.
- ½ cup of 7UP or Sprite: Any clear carbonated soda will do; choose your favorite brand!

Making these biscuits
These 7UP biscuits are baked in an 8×8-inch pan. Preheat your oven to 425°F and melt the butter in the pan as the oven warms, about 3-5 minutes.
Once the butter is melted, remove the pan from the oven and set it aside.
In a large bowl, combine the sour cream with 2 ¼ cups of the Bisquick mix. Using a pastry blender, a fork, or two knives, cut the sour cream into the Bisquick until well distributed and the mixture is shaggy.
Stir in the soda until just combined. The dough will be sticky!
On a floured surface, sprinkle half of the remaining Bisquick. Turn the dough onto the counter, sprinkling the top with the remaining mix.
Pat the dough into a square about 6×6 inches and cut into 9 squares with a floured knife or dough blade.
Place the biscuit squares in the pan atop the melted butter and bake for 15-16 minutes or until golden brown.
Storage and reheating
For the best flavor, enjoy 7UP biscuits the day they are made. If you need to store them, keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days.
To reheat, wrap them in foil and warm them in a toaster oven, air fryer, or low oven for a few minutes.
For freezing, make the dough and cut it into squares, then freeze on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 1-2 hours. Store frozen biscuits in a zip-top bag for up to a month. Bake from frozen according to the recipe, adding a few extra minutes if necessary.
FAQs
Can I use diet soda in this recipe?
Yes, diet 7UP or Sprite can be used, but they will impart a slightly different flavor. If you’re okay with this change, go ahead!
What is Bisquick mix? We don’t have it in my country.
Bisquick mix is a popular baking mix in the US. If you can’t find it, homemade Bisquick works wonderfully in this recipe.
Can I use a 9×9-inch pan instead of an 8×8-inch pan?
Certainly! The biscuits will spread more, so reduce the baking time by 1-2 minutes.
Can I cut these 7UP biscuits into circles instead of squares?
Yes! Use a floured biscuit cutter for circular biscuits, but you may need to re-roll and cut the scraps.
