Who doesn’t love a good party snack? When it comes to gatherings, sneaking bites of delicious treats like spicy sausage dip, marinated cheese, and mango and black bean salsa is a must. If you’ve seen me visit the buffet table a few too many times, just pretend you didn’t notice!
The best kind of party snack is one that’s not only tasty but also easy to prepare—and that’s exactly what these ranch crackers are. With just a handful of simple ingredients and about 30 minutes, you’ll have a flavorful snack that is always a crowd-pleaser.
These ranch crackers also make a fun host gift for game-day parties or tailgates. Just package them in a cute jar, and you’ll have a delightful homemade gift that your friends will surely appreciate.
What are ranch crackers?
Midwesterners have a deep-rooted love for ranch flavor. From classic ranch dip to exciting dishes like bacon ranch pasta salad and chicken bacon ranch pizza, it’s clear that ranch is a beloved staple in our cuisine. So, ranch-flavored crackers? Absolutely!
Typically made with oyster crackers or saltines, ranch crackers are tossed with butter or oil and ranch seasoning, baked to a delightful crisp. These irresistible bites are perfect for setting out on the coffee table during the big game.
While oyster crackers and saltines are the classics, they aren’t your only options. One of my favorites is using Ritz Bitz cheese crackers, which adds a sensational buttery and cheesy taste. It’s a must-try if you haven’t already!
How to make these easy ranch crackers
Ingredients you’ll need
- 1 (8.8-ounce) box Ritz Bitz cheese crackers
- 4 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons ranch seasoning
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon dried dill
Using Ritz Bitz cheese crackers (or a similar brand) is my go-to for this recipe. If you prefer, you can substitute them with about 9 ounces of other cracker varieties, like oyster crackers or mini saltines.
Homemade ranch seasoning works great in this recipe, but feel free to use a store-bought option if you prefer. Two tablespoons are equal to a standard 1-ounce packet of ranch seasoning.
Making these crackers
Ready to whip up these ranch crackers? You’ll likely mix them together before your oven is done preheating!
- Preheat your oven to 250°F and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place the crackers in a large bowl and drizzle the melted butter over them. Stir gently to combine.
- Sprinkle the ranch seasoning, garlic powder, and dill over the crackers, then gently stir again to ensure they are evenly coated.
- Spread the seasoned crackers out evenly on the baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, stirring midway through.
- Allow the crackers to cool before transferring them to an airtight container, where they can be stored for up to a week.
Yes, baking at 250°F is correct! Just like with homemade Chex Mix, you’re not cooking the crackers, but rather drying them out, so a low oven is ideal.
Recipe variations
This ranch cracker recipe is incredibly versatile. You can easily switch up the crackers according to your preference—try goldfish crackers, Cheez-Its, or classic Ritz.
For added zest, consider mixing crushed red pepper flakes into your seasoning or adding hot sauce to the melted butter. If you’re using a packet of ranch seasoning, don’t hesitate to explore the flavored varieties as well.
And if you find yourself without butter, feel free to use a neutral oil, such as canola or vegetable oil, in its place.
No matter how you make them, these ranch crackers are destined to be a hit!
