Why Should You Fill Cupcakes?

Filling cupcakes might seem like an extra step, but it’s definitely worth it!

A filling adds an element of surprise and can introduce a delightful burst of flavor.

Imagine the flavors: lemon cupcakes filled with zesty lemon curd, vanilla cupcakes infused with raspberry jam, or even peanut butter cupcakes with a hint of grape jelly.

The combinations are endless! After experimenting with various filling techniques, I’ve settled on the best method that ensures success.

How to Fill Cupcakes

Today, I’ll share two methods for filling cupcakes. The first, using an apple corer, is the simplest way. However, if you lack an apple corer, no worries! I’ll also describe how to use a paring knife.

Using an Apple Corer

This method is my favorite for coring cupcakes. Most of us have an apple corer lying around, making it a handy tool!

Gently insert the apple corer into the center of the cupcake, pushing it down about halfway. Be careful not to pierce the bottom of the cupcake.

Rotate the corer to slice a full circle, then pull it out to remove the cake round. Repeat this for each cupcake.

Once hollowed out, you can pipe or spoon in your filling and top it off with frosting. For an added touch, consider placing the cored cake top on the filling before frosted.

Using a Paring Knife

This method is a bit more involved but still effective if you don’t have an apple corer on hand.

Begin by inserting a paring knife at a 45-degree angle near the top of the cupcake, pushing it halfway down.

As you keep the knife angled, cut around the center of the cupcake, then lift out the cake cone. Repeat this for all cupcakes.

Once hollowed, pipe in your ideal filling and frost as desired.

What makes for a great cupcake filling? Almost anything that isn’t too runny! While most fruit sauces tend to be watery, there are plenty of delicious options to consider:
