Cute and Easy Chocolate-Covered Marshmallows
This isn’t my first adventure in making chocolate-covered marshmallows. Some years ago, I crafted Halloween marshmallow pops decorated with festive colors. Since then, I’ve realized there’s no limit on when these sweet treats can be made!
With various decoration ideas available, it’s a versatile option for any celebration. For an elegant touch, consider using homemade marshmallows instead of store-bought ones.
How to Make Chocolate-Covered Marshmallows
Ingredients You’ll Need
The essential ingredients are:
- Chocolate Chips: Semi-sweet chocolate chips are a favorite, but feel free to choose what you love! For one bag of marshmallows, one to two 10-ounce bags of chocolate chips are needed. One bag will suffice for half-dipped marshmallows, while two bags are ideal for full coverage.
- Coconut Oil or Shortening: One tablespoon is necessary for each 10-ounce bag of chocolate chips.
- Marshmallows: Standard or jumbo marshmallows work great. Alternatively, homemade marshmallows elevate this treat to an upscale gift.
For decorating, consider:
- Seasonal sprinkles
- Contrasting melted chocolate, almond bark, or candy melts
- Lollipop or cake-pop sticks
Making These Treats
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil or shortening in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 1 minute, stirring well. Continue microwaving in 15-second intervals until melted and glossy.
Time to dip! Use a toothpick to pick up each marshmallow and submerge it in the melted chocolate, halfway or fully, as preferred. If you’re using homemade marshmallows, a fork is recommended for easier handling.
Remove excess chocolate using a fork or the bowl’s edge and place the marshmallows on the parchment-lined sheet.
If adding sprinkles, do this immediately while the chocolate is still wet. Let the marshmallows sit in a cool, dry place until the chocolate has firmed up.
Decorating Ideas
Festive sprinkles are a simple yet effective way to enhance your chocolate-dipped marshmallows!
Consider using pink and red sprinkles for Valentine’s Day, or orange, black, and purple for Halloween. Green shades can brighten up St. Patrick’s Day, while rainbow sprinkles are great year-round.
Step beyond holidays, crafting these for events such as game days or graduations. Don’t limit yourself to sprinkles; consider melting contrasting chocolate colors for a drizzled effect.
Transform these chocolate-dipped treats into marshmallow pops using cake pop sticks, making for adorable party favors!
No matter the occasion, these delightful marshmallow treats are a simple yet captivating go-to recipe you’ll enjoy making repeatedly!
